In March SALGA and NASHO organised a workshop for municipalities and Social Housing Institutions on the management of the prices of Rates and Utilities in social housing projects. In this workshop the parties were looking for solutions to the high prices of rates and utilities that are increasing the rentals for social housing projects to a very high level.
This in some cases causes that tenants are no longer able to pay the rent. SHIs and municipalities are now in discussion on what legal and practical steps need to be taken to tackle this issue and to ensure that the rentals remain affordable for the target income group.
Good practices were presented and municipalities and SHIs have been discussing the way forward to ensure affordable social housing in their projects. Based on this workshop, lessons learned will be shared with other municipalities and SHIs.
