On the 10th of April, citizen Journalists from the company Health E-News, a project funded by Making All Voices Count, received training on how local government works in terms of legislation, systems and processes, relevant IGR government structures, as well as lobby and advocacy techniques. This training was conducted by CMRA Project Manager : Chantal Mathews and Ravin Singh from the Education and Training Unit. The project trains community members in basic journalism skills to report on local health services and issues. The project utilises smart phones for recording and reporting stories which are sent to a web portal for further editing and distribution by Health-e News. The project is currently rolled out within the 11 pilot districts and will be now scaled out to 26 marginalized districts within South Africa.
